It’s back to school tomorrow, my friends and that officially wraps the fastest summer ever. I honestly didn’t think I’d be so sad about it. I’m usually thrilled by the school year starting, but it feels different this year. Sure, I am very ready to have my office hours back and to be able to produce more content, but I’ll miss the lax schedule of summer and of course, my little side kick. I was just putting our fall calendar together and setting our morning wake up alarms and I realized that I’m simply not ready for it all. (Muffin the cat is equally as sad, she’s been following Gemma around all week. I don’t know how she knows, but SHE KNOWS.) It’s officially not summer around here anymore. Le sigh. But with that, let’s get to last week’s outfits:
Monday | WFH + Happy Hour

Our daughter had a last minute playdate so B and I ended up having a surprise happy hour date! We used to happy hour all the time before having Gemma, so when we get to sneak away for a bit it feels reminiscent of our 20s. I wasn’t necessarily in a ‘let’s go out’ outfit but I felt like this outfit worked just fine for our little casual outing. I love these shorts, under $30 and incredibly comfortable. They run generously!
Tuesday | Park + Pool
Linen top | Swimsuit | Skort | Tote | Sunglasses | Sandals
I knew last week wasn’t going to be a productive week so I just gave in to the ebb and flow of it all. The playdate ended up at our house and so the next day we went to the park and the pool to kill some time. I ended up wearing my swimsuit with this skort, as a nice poolside cover up. It’s an activewear material but works well beside the pool. Then to look like a somewhat normal outfit instead of just pool wear, I tossed on my linen top. Easy and chic little pool outfit, if I do say so myself.
Wednesday | Hair Cut + Color

This was my hair salon day. I had an early appointment and this was the best outfit I could throw on that morning. I’m trying to grow my hair out so I haven’t had a proper cut in months. I needed to get my grays covered anyways, so I decided on a little chop, too. I’m also very much over wearing my hair in waves lately so I’m trying my best to wear it up or wear it straight. (See the new do, below.) I’m in that in-between state of not long but not short and I haaatttteee this phase. This is usually when I slap on hair extensions to get me through the awkwardly painful grow out stage. But ironically I end up losing more hair through that process and end up cutting it off just to start over again. I’m trying to do this the old school way: time, top knots and complaining online.
Thursday | Back to School Shopping

We ran all over town looking for back to school shorts for Gemma and boy, were we coming up dry. We finally found some skorts at Target, but let me tell you I was at my wit’s end but this point. It’s 100º here and every store is full of sweaters, pants and sweats; it just will never make sense to me. I understand retail doesn’t follow the seasons or weather patterns, but I think we should change this. It just doesn’t make any sense to push clothes that no one can possibly wear here until October. Note to self: stock up on shorts in June for school.
I just got these jeans in from Spanx and I love them. I forget how much I love a kick flare silhouette, I find it to be so flattering. These are more fitted at the hips / waist but I love that they hold everything in. (I’m in the medium.) Highly recommend trying Spanx denim if you haven’t. They’re a great fit and they have compression at the waist, which I personally love.
Friday | Coffee Shop + WFH
No notes; just a nice all white outfit for a clumsy woman in a coffee shop. Look, I gotta get my thrills from somewhere. (No stains by the way…1-0 me vs. the coffee shop)

Oh girl, I love this outfit so so much. And let’s have a moment for these pants! I’ve long loved the pajama pant trend, even though I don’t know if my audience does as much? Either way I find them to be so chic and unexpected. (A unicorn perhaps!?) This pair is from Splendid and I love the fit and weight of them. I’m in the large, great fit and long enough as well!
Sunday | Date Night
I rented this one from Nuuly and I’m glad I rented it. I love wearing it and I’ll wear it throughout the month but do you ever put something on and think…this isn’t me? I had that moment after I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I think at one point it was more of my style, but I feel like I’m growing out of this ‘sweet’ style. I wore this for a quick little date night with B. I’ll miss tossing on summer dresses for date night this fall. They’re just so darn easy to pull off.
